When scouting, surveying, and doing light reconnaissance it’s good to be able to see the predators before they see you.
Night vision binoculars and monoculars with magnification are an ideal way to see further at night without having to point a weapon as you would scanning an area with a night vision riflescope.
This series is about having the advantage of night vision at low cost because of budget constraints or because you want to start off your night vision experience with a smaller investment.
You can get a lot of cheap night vision but being able to see far enough away so you have ample time before contact requires a bit of quality. We’ll identify the reported or advertised viewing distance for each one.
This is part four in a six-post series dedicated to night vision on the cheap.
Here we go…
As previously mentioned, we want to see “them” before they see “us.” And that’s why we invest in night vison binoculars.
They aren’t made for movement or taking a shot in the cover of night. They’re made for reconnaissance and information gathering.
Let’s see if we can achieve this for less than your rent or mortgage payment.

They range in quality and distance but all are Gen 1 quality night vision. Most under the $300 mark.
You’re not going to reach out to crazy distances like the Armasight Discovery 8X Ghost Night Vision Binocular with White Phosphor imaging, but you’re paying less than a tenth of the cost.
